Cathedral Spires is located within an area of Custer State Park known as the Needles. To get the trailhead, you have to drive through a small tunnel only large enough for one car. Mountain goats were licking something on the side of the tunnel. My car and another car had to wait for them to finish.
I really enjoyed this little hike. Since I wanted to see so many things, I spent a lot of time driving (averaging almost 280 miles a day) and this was a delightful break.
