Cape St. Mary’s Ecological Reserve, Newfoundland
Cape St. Mary’s Ecological Reserve is a wonderland for birdwatchers. In late June and early July, thousands of gulls, razorbills, common murres, black-legged kittiwakes, northern gannets, and double-crested and great cormorants nest here. By this time in August, only the northern gannets are left. Even now, they are still pretty noisy and there is a bit of fishy odor. It is 500 feet down to the water so they are safe from land predators. A bald eagle does stop by for snacks though.
