Navajo National Monument
Navajo National Monument is located in northern Arizona and was established to preserve three well-preserved cliff dwellings of the Ancestral Puebloan people: Keet Seel, Betatakin, and Inscription House. The monument is high on the Shonto plateau, overlooking the Tsegi Canyon system. Keet Seel held up to 150 people at one time and is considered by many archaeological experts to be one of the best preserved larger ruins in the American Southwest.
The Inscription House site has been closed to public access for many years and Keet Seel can only be visited by a strenuous 17 mile round trip; visitors can only access the ruins with a Ranger guide.
You can view the Betatakin cliff dwellings from the opposite side of the canyon via a 1.3 mile round trip.
