Guadelupe Mountains National Park
Guadelupe Mountains National Park was established in 1966.
The mountain range includes Guadalupe Peak, the highest point in Texas at 8,749 feet, and El Capitan used as a landmark by travelers on the route later followed by the Butterfield Overland Mail stagecoach line.
Since the area only gets 10 to 20 inches of rain a year, Yucca, Agave, and Prickly Pear Cactus are common. There is one hike called the Permian Reef Geology Trail where you can see fossils on an ancient reef.
